Boerne Independent School District boosts 4th-5th grade reading growth by 104.9 points with 95 Percent Group Inc.

Boerne Independent School District, a Texas district with 11,000 students, faced challenges with inconsistent phonics instruction and gaps in student literacy skills across its K-5 elementary schools. Despite having a core ELA program, its use was not required, leading to varied teaching approaches. The district partnered with vendor 95 Percent Group Inc. to implement its 95 Phonics Core Program® to provide a structured, explicit, and systematic phonics curriculum aligned with the science of reading.

95 Percent Group Inc. provided the 95 Phonics Core Program® along with implementation and coaching services to support teachers. The solution was rolled out strategically across grade levels. Results from a study showed that students in grades 4 and 5 using the program demonstrated significantly more growth in reading scores (+104.9 points) compared to a peer group (+89.7 points), and were more likely to be mastery-ready. The district also reported improvements on state assessments, qualitative gains in student reading abilities and confidence, and more effective teaching practices.
