Government of Barbados advances 50 MW wind farm feasibility study with 3E

The Government of Barbados partnered with 3E to conduct a technical feasibility study for the nation's first utility-scale wind farm. The challenge was to develop a bankable project on a small island, which involved overcoming unique logistical hurdles for transporting large turbine components, navigating a dense network of environmental constraints, and designing a wind farm resilient to hurricanes and extreme weather.

3E conducted detailed investigations including wind data review, constraints mapping, and climate risk assessments. They developed an initial project design with hurricane-resilient specifications and performed probabilistic energy yield assessments. The resulting feasibility study provided a robust technical foundation for a Public-Private Partnership tender, demonstrating that large-scale wind energy is technically and economically viable for Barbados and paving the way for a more sustainable energy future.
