Eneco turns -20% PR deviation into +1.91% with 3E

Eneco, an IPP operating a hybrid wind-solar plant in the Netherlands, faced a significant challenge in accurately measuring the performance of its Kabeljauwbeek asset. Due to a shared grid connection, the solar plant was subject to continuous, dynamic curtailment, making traditional performance ratio (PR) calculations meaningless. This led to reported PR deviations of nearly –20%, but Eneco could not determine if the losses were from grid constraints, technical issues, or other causes. To address this, they turned to vendor 3E and its SynaptiQ platform.

3E's solution involved creating a digital twin of the asset in SynaptiQ to simulate expected production and integrating real-time curtailment signals. This allowed Eneco to quantify energy lost to curtailment and break down all other losses. By using 3E's SynaptiQ, Eneco corrected its performance reporting; a monthly PR showing a –20% deviation was corrected to +1.91% above budget, proving the plant was performing well technically and the losses were due to grid constraints. This enabled better operational decisions and future-proofed performance management for all new Eneco projects.
