Wegner, ADC Use Geomagic Reverse Engineering Technology to Rev Up Horsepower for Top Racing Teams

Wegner Automotive, a family-run engine performance shop renowned across North American motorsports, built its reputation on expert hand‑ground cylinder head porting—a craft that yields major horsepower gains but is slow and difficult to replicate consistently across multiple ports. Faced with the challenge of duplicating an expert’s one‑off port geometry quickly and accurately for racing teams, Wegner partnered with Advanced Design Concepts (ADC) to find a faster, repeatable workflow.

ADC and Wegner implemented a 3D reverse‑engineering pipeline using hybrid scanning (GOM ATOS and a Romer/Perceptron arm) and Geomagic Studio to capture, clean, auto‑surface and mirror ports, then export NURBS models into Delcam PowerMill for five‑axis machining. The new process shrank scanning and processing from about three days to a matter of hours, increased accuracy and repeatability, and lets Wegner deliver a complete, race‑ready set of duplicated ports within days—transforming throughput and competitiveness for their racing customers.
