Vitec Cuts Fuel Tank Development Time As Much As 40% With Geomagic Control

VITEC, a supplier of plastic fuel storage and delivery systems for automakers, needed accurate variable wall-thickness data to run reliable volume and grade-line studies and predict in-vehicle performance. Previously the company relied on average thickness estimates that introduced errors, increased production iterations and risked costly retooling.

VITEC implemented an integrated workflow combining blow-molding simulation (BlowSim/BlowView), Patran meshing and CAD, optical scanning of manufactured shells, and Geomagic Design X and Geomagic Control for 3D comparison and automated inspection. The process validated simulated thickness and warpage against scanned parts (volume accuracy of 99.5% and 97.7% in studies), cut inspection time by an estimated 20–30% and reduced product development time by as much as 40%, enabling earlier detection of manufacturing and performance issues.
