A 3D Systems Case Study
Polaris Industries’ Victory Motorcycles needed a prototype bracket for the seat holder on the new Victory Vegas Jackpot that matched the bike’s custom look and could be chromed to a high finish. The part was large but only 0.100 in. thick, with almost every surface contoured and some deep, tight radiused V‑grooves that caused chroming problems; prior IGES-based data exchanges also caused inaccuracies and slowed iteration between designers and the shop.
Senior machinist Jerome Jasmer used GibbsCAM with the Pro/ENGINEER Granite data exchange and SolidSurfacer to import solids directly, compare strategies, simulate finishes, and choose a lace‑cutting approach with very small stepovers. By reusing process libraries and leveraging full associativity he quickly updated multiple revisions, achieved a chrome‑ready finish with minimal handwork, reduced cycle times, and streamlined prototype development—helping Victory maintain quality and speed in its product launches.
