Training on ANGIO Mentor Helped Introduce TAVI Technology to Physicians Worldwide

3D Systems (Simbionix) used its ANGIO Mentor simulator to help introduce transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) to physicians worldwide. When TAVI expanded rapidly after 2007, many experienced interventional cardiologists had little or no procedural experience and ongoing device and technique changes (new delivery systems, approaches, valve types and patient indications) created a continuing training challenge.

In 2008 3D Systems developed TAVI simulation software and a replica deployment handle for the ANGIO Mentor, offering realistic scenarios (including complications), performance summaries and structured team training, plus a portable ANGIO Mentor Flex for local refreshers. The simulation enabled repeated practice in a safe, pause-and-debrief environment, increased familiarity with devices and responses to complications, and—according to users—reduced complication complexity and improved procedural readiness and clinical outcomes.
