A 3D Systems Case Study
K2M, a global leader in complex spine and minimally invasive solutions, faced the challenge of broadening its treatment portfolio—moving beyond deformity corrections into degenerative and patient-specific spinal solutions—while maintaining precision and regulatory quality. To do this, K2M needed advanced metal 3D printing and surgical planning capabilities to produce implants with the porous, bone-friendly structures surgeons require.
K2M formed a strategic partnership with 3D Systems, leveraging ProX® DMP 320 printers, 3D Systems’ DMP expertise and K2M’s Lamellar 3D Titanium Technology™ to produce the FDA-cleared CASCADIA™ interbody systems with controlled porosity and surface roughness. The collaboration enabled product-line growth, supported a Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP®)–driven “compassionate use” implant for a patient with no alternatives, and established a platform for expanding into patient-specific spinal devices.
