SLA 3D Printing Enables Australian Museum to Flawlessly Reproduce Fierce Dinosaur

The Australian Age of Dinosaurs (AAOD) Museum wanted an immaculate, museum-quality miniature of Banjo (Australovenator wintonensis) — a life-sized, highly detailed digital model scaled down to a 1:24, 22 cm toy — and needed a way to capture every wrinkle and scale for a production run of 1,000 toys. Previous 3D prints for large displays lacked the fine resolution required for small, finely detailed reproductions.

3D Systems On Demand Manufacturing produced a high-resolution master on a ProJet 7000 HD SLA system using VisiJet SL FLEX, delivering the accuracy and speed AAOD required. The printed master was used to create injection molds in China, yielding exact, hand-painted replicas with quick turnaround; the result met AAOD’s quality expectations and prompted plans for three additional dinosaur toys.
