Sculpture Institute Of The China Academy Of Art Uses Geomagic Wrap To Create Chairman Mao Statue

The Sculpture Institute of the China Academy of Art, a leading fine arts school in China, needed to produce a large public statue of Chairman Mao but found traditional scaling from design drawings slow, weather- and space-dependent, and subject to individual interpretation that risked proportion and aesthetic accuracy.

Using 3D Systems’ Geomagic Wrap, the team scanned a 2 m mud maquette, repaired and adjusted the polygon model for the intended viewing angle, and exported an STL for rapid prototyping and assembly into the 7 m final sculpture in Xiangtan. The digital workflow reduced working time, guaranteed accurate proportions and detail, and produced a widely praised local landmark.
