A 3D Systems Case Study
Bespoke Innovations, founded by industrial designer Scott Summit and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kenneth Trauner, set out to address the stigma and lack of individuality in prosthetic limbs. Although mobility and materials had improved, prosthetics remained visually impersonal; the company aimed to deliver affordable, personalized fairings that add form and style without compromising function.
Using 3D scans of the intact and prosthetic leg, Geomagic Wrap and Autodesk Inventor for fast customization, and in‑house rapid prototyping and finishing (nylon, leather, metal), Bespoke creates modular fairings that are reviewed with patients and delivered in about three weeks. The result is highly personalized, functional covers—examples include fish‑net, tattooed leather, and motorcycle‑style metal finishes—that restore individuality, meet practical needs, and increase patient confidence.
