A 3D Systems Case Study
rms, a long-established contract manufacturer of medical device components, partnered with 3D Systems to deliver a full "powder-to-package" additive manufacturing capability—taking digital files through printing, post-processing, sterilization and packaging so parts arrive ready for the surgical suite. The challenge was transitioning from traditional subtractive manufacturing to scaled, repeatable metal AM production while maintaining the quality and regulatory confidence required by medical OEMs.
With 3D Systems’ proven DMP technology, validated workflows and hands-on technology transfer, rms expanded its AM fleet from one to 30 printers in four years and built in-house expertise for heat treat, finishing, testing, packaging and sterilization. The result is a scalable, repeatable production process (no global offsets across machines), strengthened quality systems, and new business opportunities beyond spinal implants.
