Prototyping a New Generator Housing in a Few Days with 3D Systems

Generac Power Systems, a leading manufacturer of standby and prime power generator sets and the market leader in residential home standby generators, faced a critical design challenge when an internal engine component began showing interference during testing. With production die-cast parts carrying lead times of months, the engineering team needed a fast way to validate a redesign to avoid costly delays.

Generac used 3D Systems’ On Demand Manufacturing (Quickparts) to produce a prototype within four days of quoting. The part was tested directly in the starter motor, confirming the redesign eliminated the interference, saving weeks of lead time and allowing Generac to proceed confidently to production.
