A 3D Systems Case Study
Protocast, a precision investment casting foundry founded in 1966, serves aerospace, energy, medical and other industries that demand intricate, high‑quality cast parts. The company struggled with long lead times and high costs when outsourcing wax patterns for complex components—some jobs required multiple tools and delivery often took 12–13 weeks—limiting flexibility and growth.
To regain control and speed production, Protocast installed a 3D Systems Projet MJP 2500 IC and uses VisiJet M2 ICast wax to print castable patterns in‑house. The digital foundry workflow cut lead times from months to same‑week delivery, eliminated tooling costs, enabled production of hyper‑thin, detailed parts, improved quoting and customer communication with scale models, and opened new business by allowing flexible production quantities.
