A 3D Systems Case Study
Precimax, an Edmonton-based, family-run job shop, specializes in awkward, precision-machined parts in tough materials (stainless, high-nickel alloys, Inconel) and typically runs one‑to‑ten piece jobs with complex geometries and tight tolerances. Those factors — interrupted cuts, extreme tool wear and the need for flexibility across varied part sizes — put heavy demands on tooling, programming and inspection capability.
Precimax tackled this by equipping each machinist with GibbsCAM (updated annually) and using VoluMill toolpaths to maintain consistent material-removal volume, which lets end mills remove stock faster, reduces tool failure in corners, and extends cutter life. Combined with shop-floor programming autonomy, Haas and Mazak machines, and a new Mitutoyo CMM for rapid inspection, the result is faster, more reliable production of difficult parts, stronger in‑house skills, and a healthier, growth‑minded business preparing for ISO certification.
