Neometrix Delivers 3D Scan Data to the Movie World for Warner Bros' 'Dolphin Tale' with Geomagic

Neometrix Technology Inc., a Florida-based specialist in 3D scanning, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping, was engaged to help Warner Bros. blend live-action footage of Winter the dolphin with animatronics and CGI for the film Dolphin Tale. The challenge was to produce highly accurate 3D data that matched the real animal so visual effects could be integrated seamlessly without subjecting Winter to repeated takes or stress.

Using a Creaform MetraSCAN and Geomagic reverse-engineering software, NeoMetrix scanned the animatronic dolphin and processed the data into a fully watertight 3D model within days. The result was precise, production-ready geometry that allowed the VFX team to combine real footage and digital effects quickly, preserving animal welfare and delivering realistic on-screen visuals.
