Mountain View High School 3D Printing and Formula One Racing in Schools Get students up to speed

Mountain View High School in Stafford, Virginia (enrollment ~1,900) sought ways to better engage students and prepare them for careers and higher education. The school faced the challenge of turning classroom interest into practical, career-focused skills that would motivate students across disciplines.

MVHS adopted 3D printing (ZPrinter 310) alongside its extracurricular F1 in Schools program, having students design in CAD, print prototypes and test them in a wind tunnel. The approach boosted performance and engagement—students placed 2nd in the Virginia championship and 7th in the world, improved math and CAD skills, and gained career-ready manufacturing experience—prompting the district to buy six more ZPrinters for its high schools.
