Motorcycle Engines Get Makeover with GibbsCAM CNC Software

Cometic Gasket, a fast‑growing Ohio manufacturer of OEM and custom gaskets, partnered with and acquired Delkron Manufacturing to add high‑performance V‑Twin engine components to its lineup. Delkron presented a major challenge: little to no retained design data, so Cometic had to rebuild parts from scratch, develop machining processes and workholding, and add complex five‑axis capability while keeping existing production and quick turnaround commitments running.

Cometic solved the problem by leveraging SolidWorks for CAD and GibbsCAM (including the five‑axis module) for NC programming, adding a Haas VF‑3 with rotary/tilt axes and using GibbsCAM SolidSurfacer, Cut Part Rendering and machine simulation to verify toolpaths and prevent collisions. The team developed fixtures and in‑house machining for rocker boxes, cylinders and heads, enabling five‑axis simultaneous work on ports and chambers, bringing Delkron production fully in‑house, expanding capabilities and positioning the company to complete the program on schedule and pursue further product and contract machining opportunities.
