MEYER WERFT Builds Cruise Ships with Help from Geomagic Control X

MEYER WERft, a German shipyard renowned for building large, custom cruise ships, faces the enormous challenge of assembling millions of components so that every section fits precisely and ships are delivered on time. Even small geometric deviations from CAD—caused by welding, transport, or temperature—can lead to costly rework, puddling on decks, or installation issues, so preventing assembly errors and reducing physical adjustments is critical.

To address this, MEYER WERFT uses Leica laser scanners, a LizardQ camera system and 3D Systems’ Geomagic Control X for point-cloud analysis, 3D target-vs-actual comparisons, surface and deck analyses, and fit checks. This workflow yields reliable measurements, faster quality decisions, accurate part fitting (including successful lifeboat and stabilizer checks), reduced follow-up costs, and on-time delivery of complex vessels.
