Magellan Technology Leverages Urethane Casting with 3D Systems On Demand Manufacturing

Magellan Technology, an Australian company using proprietary RFID Stack Tag technology, needed a manufacturer for its new smart document tray reader, the MDocR-2505. The challenge was to move quickly from prototype to production with a single-source supplier that could provide fast quotes, responsive support, and multiple manufacturing processes.

3D Systems On Demand Manufacturing provided Plastic Jet Printing prototypes in multiple colors for fit and function testing, then produced production-quality display models using QuickPlastic™ cast urethane/RTV molds, with parts shipped via FedEx. The responsive service and end-to-end capability helped Magellan launch the MDocR-2505 in June 2004 to an overwhelming response, prompting plans to expand the line with heavy-duty stackable and executive lite versions.
