Lindar Corporation Accelerating Thermoforming Innovation with Additive Manufacturing

Lindar Corporation, a thermoforming company in Baxter, Minnesota, needed a faster, more flexible way to produce full-size prototypes, molds, and fixtures. Traditional machined aluminum tooling often took 8 to 12 weeks, creating bottlenecks for new product launches and custom jobs, while other large-format 3D printing options were too costly or slow for their needs.

To solve this, Lindar Corporation implemented 3D Systems’ EXT 1270 Titan Pellet 3D printer and later added a ProX SLS 6100 for thin-gauge molds and high-detail fixtures. With 3D Systems, Lindar cut prototype tooling lead times by more than 80% to just 1–2 weeks, reduced tooling costs to one-third of previous levels for some jobs, won new customers, and created a new revenue stream offering rapid prototype tooling and parts.
