KTH Royal Institute of Technology Expands Scope of Architecture Education with 3D Printing

KTH Royal Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture wanted students to move beyond on‑screen visualization and gain the tactile insights that only physical models provide. However, traditional modelmaking methods were slow, costly and constrained students’ ability to iterate and learn about fabrication early in the design process.

KTH adopted a 3D Systems ProJet CJP 660Pro Color Jet printer for its speed, low material cost and large build volume, cutting print times from days to hours and allowing multiple parts per build. The single ProJet now supports 50+ students, enabling a steady stream of concept models from day one, deeper understanding of fabrication and performative design, faster iteration and ultimately stronger final projects with minimal training.
