Impossible Creations Calls on 3D Systems’ Digital Workflow for Reproduction Challenge on the King’s Car

Impossible Creations, a UK-based custom scan, design and modeling firm, was hired to recreate the Britannia-upon-Globe mascot from a flawed, historic bronze sculpture with no existing CAD data and an unknown final size. The challenge was to produce an accurate, detailed digital and physical reproduction suitable for mounting on a restored King's car while preserving fine heritage detail.

Using 3D Systems’ scan-to-CAD workflow, the team captured the sculpture with Geomagic Capture, converted and refined the mesh in Geomagic Wrap and Freeform (with a Touch haptic device), and designed mounting hardware in SOLIDWORKS before reducing the model to the required scale. A high-resolution MJP 3D printed master produced an injection-mold-quality surface for an RTV silicone mold and investment casting into nickel-coated brass; the result was a precise, highly detailed 200 mm replica indistinguishable from the original and now displayed on the restored vehicle.
