A 3D Systems Case Study
The University of Huddersfield’s School of Art & Design partnered with 3D Systems to modernize how students produce final projects. Traditionally students spent weeks handcrafting models—time that could be better spent on design, with added safety risks from power tools and often inaccurate results—while lacking exposure to the prototyping technologies used in industry.
Huddersfield adopted ProJet CJP 3D printers to print CAD designs directly, delivering fast, accurate, low-cost prototypes (typical handheld parts around $10 or $2–$3 per cubic inch). The change improved safety and workflow, helped students win awards and jobs at firms like Dyson and Lego, enhanced recruitment, enabled external prototyping work, and led to investment in high-definition color printing for richer presentations and analysis.
