Graft3D Designs and 3D Prints Patient-Specific Dental Implants with 3D Technology

Graft3D Healthcare Solutions, a Chennai‑based reseller of 3D Systems healthcare software and provider of patient‑specific implant (PSI) design and 3D printing, paired a team of PSI design engineers and surgeons to tackle a complex dental case: restore an edentulous mandible with a subperiosteal implant using 3D technology and a minimally invasive surgical approach.

Using 3D Systems’ D2P for image-to-STL conversion, Geomagic Freeform with a Touch haptic device for virtual implant design, and a combination of plastic (PLA) and medical‑grade titanium (Ti6Al4V) 3D printing, the team planned, modeled and manufactured a custom subperiosteal implant and anatomical model. The workflow enabled precise implant and screw positioning, reduced intraoperative drilling, eliminated multiple postoperative impressions and appointments (cutting patient time by up to 50–60%), improved accuracy, and shortened rehabilitation time while successfully restoring the patient’s jaw.
