A 3D Systems Case Study
Pacific Tool Inc., a Redmond, Washington tool-and-die shop founded in the late 1960s, faced rising costs from frequent setups as customers shifted to smaller, more frequent orders. The shop needed to consolidate multiple machining operations into a single setup to preserve its specialty in complex parts while remaining competitive.
Pacific Tool invested in a Mori Seiki MT2000SZ multitasking machine and GibbsCAM MTM software, working with Gibbs to fine-tune a custom postprocessor and setup sheets. The software’s Sync Manager and machine modeling cut programming complexity and setup time, halving cycle time on at least one part, enabling same-day small runs instead of multiweek turnarounds, and opening new markets (like medical) without raising prices.
