GibbsCAM Programming Meets Need for Speed

Ed Pink Racing Engines (EPRE), founded in 1959 and now a 23‑employee R&D shop in Van Nuys, CA, develops high‑performance engines and components for top racing series including NASCAR. EPRE faced a critical manufacturing bottleneck: reliance on multiple outside vendors for prototypes and parts led to long lead times, inconsistent quality, high costs and limited ability to iterate quickly on race‑critical components.

EPRE bought a Haas VF‑3 VMC and adopted GibbsCAM (with SolidWorks integration) to bring machining in‑house. GibbsCAM’s easy programming, simulation and CAD associativity let the shop machine complex rotors from billet instead of outsourcing, cutting rotor cost from $100 to under $25, producing 100 rotors in a week rather than months, reducing scrap and delivery times, and enabling rapid design iteration and improved pump performance.
