GibbsCAM Multitask Machining Helps Turn a One-part Solution into Huge Pay-off

Precise Products Corporation, a Minneapolis-based aerospace machine shop founded in 1956, faced a 2007 challenge from customer Rosemount Aerospace to reduce the cost of a family of tubular shell parts (lots of ~200, typical runs 300–1,000) that varied in length, cuts, holes and slots. The parts had been made in multiple turning and milling operations, and failure to reduce cost risked losing the contract.

Precise invested in a six‑axis Citizen Cincom C32 Swiss lathe and GibbsCAM Multitask Machining (MTM) software to program integrated turning, live tooling, C‑axis and milling operations; features like Sync Control, Cut Part Rendering, Analyze Cut Part and Operations Summary ensured safe, verifiable toolpaths and accurate cycle estimates. The result: they met and nearly tripled their production goal, cut part cost by more than 20%, enabled previously impractical parts and additional cycle‑time savings (examples include straight‑through drilling without pecking and producing 0.040" pins at ~300/hr).
