A 3D Systems Case Study
Webber Metal Products, a family-owned manufacturer in Cascade, Iowa, grew from a garage shop in 1973 into a full-service machine shop but ran into a productivity bottleneck as parts grew more complex and their older CAM tools became cumbersome. Manual programming and an outdated CAM system slowed throughput and made it difficult to fully leverage new multi‑axis machines.
The company replaced its legacy software with GibbsCAM, adding modules for solids, multi‑axis, MTM and machine simulation, and now models parts, associates tools with processes, and verifies toolpaths before cutting. The result: greatly reduced programming and setup time, fewer operations per part (often consolidating multiple turning and milling steps into one), the ability to produce more complex parts (including multi‑feature rock‑drill bits) and expanded production capacity across dozens of CNC machines.
