A 3D Systems Case Study
Mendell, Inc., a Minnesota contract manufacturer founded in 1965, specializes in medical implants, surgical instruments and other precision components and often produces families-of-parts (for example a 14-size implant family). The company faces strict purity and traceability requirements, complex S‑axis geometries, frequent lack of detailed prints, and the need to minimize programming, setup and machine downtime while maintaining tight tolerances and excellent surface finish.
Mendell implemented GibbsCAM across its milling and turning operations, using features like drag‑and‑drop geometry transfer, the Profiler, Tool Tile and Cut Part Rendering to create fixtures from solid models, standardize setups, simulate cuts and generate Swiss lathe code. The result: days shaved off programming and setup time and hours saved per part, reduced machine changeovers and idle time, improved finish and consistency, and expanded capability to run increasingly complex S‑axis and Swiss parts while supporting company growth and medical‑industry quality demands.
