A 3D Systems Case Study
GN ReSound, a global leader in hearing instruments known for brands like ReSound and Beltone, faced an industry-wide challenge: custom-fit shells were made by hand, a slow, skill-dependent process that limited scalability, consistency and the ability to serve a growing market of millions who need individualized, discreet devices. The company needed a way to increase throughput, improve quality control and expand customization to appeal to people who otherwise avoid hearing aids for aesthetic, comfort or cost reasons.
GN ReSound implemented a fully digital workflow using 3Shape 3D scanners and Geomagic Wrap to transform STL scans into watertight, sculptable models, simultaneously editing left and right shells, checking electronic-fit collisions, and engineering variable-thickness shells before exporting to rapid-prototyping. The result: faster, more consistent production with greater customization, fewer remakes and a substantial productivity increase that enables scalable manufacturing and better product differentiation.
