Fundació Puigvert, a leading urology center in Barcelona affiliated with the Autonomous University of Barcelona, needed to modernize and standardize surgical training for medical students, residents and postgraduates. Faced with evidence that many residents finish training without proficiency in complex procedures, the team sought a virtual reality solution that faithfully replicated the da Vinci robotic console, supported both basic and advanced modules, could run standalone from the OR, and provided objective metrics to validate trainee readiness.

The center purchased 3D Systems’ Simbionix URO Mentor, LAP Mentor and RobotiX Mentor and established a consultant-led mentorship program. The RobotiX Mentor’s realistic console, guided and free‑hand procedural modules, and performance reports were integrated into curricula, enabling progressive skills acquisition, confidence building and objective assessment — improving residents’ preparedness to perform robotic surgery in the operating room.
