Foundry Saves Time, Advances Wax Pattern Aesthetics with Wax 3D Printing

Microfound, founded in 1993 and based in Barco, Italy, is a leader in precision lost wax casting for the mechanical sector. Facing common foundry challenges—long lead times, high pattern costs and limited surface quality—the company previously outsourced pattern-making and sought a faster, more cost-effective way to produce high-quality wax patterns and small-series parts.

Microfound adopted 3D Systems’ digital foundry solution—ProJet MJP 2500 IC printer, VisiJet M2 ICast RealWax material and 3D Sprint software—which enabled direct printing of castable patterns. The change cut pattern turnaround by multiple days, improved surface finish and detail, delivered parts with tight tolerances and production-equivalent pre‑production series, and increased competitiveness through easier workflows and greater productivity.
