EMYS Is Watching You: ProJet™ HD 3000 Speeds Up Robotic Project

The Department of Fundamental Cybernetics and Robotics at Wroclaw University of Technology, a partner in the EU-funded LIREC project led by Prof. Krzysztof Tchon, set out to develop EMYS, a novel turtle‑shaped robotic head for human‑robot interaction. The unique design required custom hardware and software; off‑the‑shelf parts and traditional milling were too slow and expensive, so the team needed a faster, cost‑effective production method.

They partnered with Cad‑Mech and used the 3D Systems ProJet HD 3000 to print every cover and functional component—including eyelids and motor connectors—in a matter of hours. The printed parts were assembled, finished and painted, producing a working EMYS quickly and to high quality; after the first head went live, two additional units were built and shipped to LIREC partners in Portugal and the UK.
