Danish Architects Win Business By 3D Printing Their Vision

Henning Larsen Architects (HLA), a world‑renowned Danish firm, faced the traditional challenge of architectural model making: crafting highly detailed, double‑curving forms and intricate elements was time‑consuming and expensive, slowing design communication and competition entries. As projects and regulations increasingly demanded physical 3D models early in the process, HLA needed a faster, more precise way to present and refine designs.

HLA adopted the ProJet CJP 460Plus 3D printer to produce color, high‑precision models in hours rather than weeks—entire competition models print in 12–14 hours and some parts in as little as an hour. The faster, more accurate models improved client and engineer communication, helped win commissions (including the Reykjavik Concert and Conference Centre), and positioned HLA to meet EU/Danish mandates requiring physical models for larger projects, reducing construction snags and permitting time and cost.
