A 3D Systems Case Study
Harmonic Machine Inc., a family‑run shop in Chilliwack, BC, grew from a single manual lathe into a full CNC shop serving oilfield, aerospace, medical and other industries. As part complexity increased, the shop faced long programming times, multiple setups and juggling sequential operations across machines—problems that constrained capacity and impeded growth.
Harmonic adopted 3D Systems–GibbsCAM (Production Milling, Lathe, MTM, VoluMill and simulation) to program a seven‑axis Mazak Integrex 200‑IV SY for multi‑tasking and simultaneous five‑axis work. The result: programming time fell (example: an 80% drop on a rollforming die to 1.5 minutes), setups and machine handoffs were largely eliminated, unmanned run time increased (parts run 19 minutes unattended), inspection and engraving were streamlined, and overall throughput and scheduling improved—supporting shop expansion into a larger facility with 12 CNCs.
