Case Study: Cisco achieves Scandinavian design excellence with 3D Systems 3D printing

A 3D Systems Case Study

Preview of the Cisco Case Study

Cisco uses 3D Systems 3D printing technology to help uphold Scandinavian design tradition

Cisco’s Consumer Business Group, with a European Design Centre in Copenhagen, needed to preserve Scandinavian design values—minimal, functional, and tactile—while accelerating product development for consumer networking gear. Traditional handcrafted prototypes were slow and expensive, 2D screens were insufficient, and outsourcing rapid prototypes added time and cost, threatening design quality and time-to-market.

Cisco adopted 3D Systems’ ProJet 460 Color Jet Printing to produce full‑color prototypes directly from CAD in hours at roughly one-fifth the cost of previous methods. Printing about 10 models per week enables hands‑on, global design reviews and fast iterative cycles, delivering refined, aesthetically consistent products more quickly and affordably.
