Case Study: Galilee Medical Center achieves precise, faster orbital reconstruction with 3D Systems

A 3D Systems Case Study

Preview of the Galilee Medical Center Case Study

Changing The Face of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery

3D Systems partnered with the Craniomaxillofacial unit at Galilee Medical Center to tackle the challenge of reconstructing complex craniofacial anatomy. A 22-year-old patient with a left orbital fracture required a precisely fitting implant to restore function and aesthetics—something difficult to achieve with traditional, intraoperative plate-bending and subjective assessment.

The team used 3D Systems’ D2P and Freeform planning software, an in-house 3D-printed gypsum model, and a patient-specific titanium implant produced in Leuven. Preoperative rehearsal and mirrored-design planning delivered a precise fit, shortened operative time, reduced error, improved cosmetic and functional outcomes, and greater patient confidence—leading the hospital to establish an end-to-end, in-house 3D surgical planning lab.
