Cell Phone Supplier Quickly Identifies Part Errors With Geomagic Control

Cascade Computing of Sweden, a computer-solutions firm supporting suppliers to Ericsson, Nokia, and Siemens, was asked to inspect a CAD model within 15 minutes as part of a performance benchmark. The challenge was to quickly identify three known errors in the part and verify overall conformity to tight tolerances.

Using an ATOS HR 3D scanner to capture 500,000 points in 10 minutes and Geomagic Control software to compare the scan to the CAD master at a 0.003 mm tolerance, Cascade produced color-coded deviation maps and an automatic go/no-go display within five minutes. The software not only confirmed the three errors but revealed additional issues, generated web-ready reports for stakeholders, and enabled rapid, standards-compliant inspection; Cascade also leverages Geomagic Studio for reverse engineering and related services.
