A 3D Systems Case Study
Advance Manufacturing Technology, a Salt Lake City job shop serving diverse industries, needed to increase throughput and handle more complex multi-axis parts after purchasing a Mori Seiki NZX2000T3Y3 multitasking machine to fill a 10,000-piece annual order. The challenge was programming and synchronizing multiple turrets and axes to cut a 9.5-minute single-turret cycle time while safely managing tool collisions and adding four- and five-axis capabilities for intricate components.
The shop licensed GibbsCAM MTM (with Sync Manager) and later GibbsCAM 5-Axis and VoluMill to program, balance and sync tool groups, generate wait codes, and create efficient high-speed toolpaths. As a result, cycle times fell by 50–75%, blanking times were reduced (e.g., from ~30 to 12–15 minutes), complex four- and five-axis parts were produced faster and more reliably, and the software’s ease of use led machinists to adopt GibbsCAM across other machines.
