Case Study: American College of Chest Physicians achieves standardized bronchoscopy training and improved clinician competency with 3D Systems

A 3D Systems Case Study

Preview of the American College of Chest Physicians Case Study

Bronchoscopy curriculum developed in collaboration with CHEST

3D Systems partnered with the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) to tackle a pressing clinical challenge: improving bronchoscopic training to aid earlier, more accurate lung cancer diagnosis. With lung cancer the leading cause of cancer death and early detection dramatically improving survival, there was a clear need for standardized, scalable education to ensure physicians develop both the cognitive and procedural skills required.

They launched the CHEST Standardized Curriculum for Bronchoscopic Essential Skills and Diagnostic Bronchoscopy on the BRONCH Mentor virtual reality simulator, featuring Essential Skills and Clinical segments delivered in Training or Assessment modes and capturing performance metrics. The program enables safe, hands-on learning that integrates decision-making with psychomotor practice, supports institutional training and potential certification, and is designed to help improve procedural performance and patient outcomes.
