Boosting Patient and Physician Understanding

Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, founded in 1987 by Dr. Barry Katzen, is a leader in cardiovascular care that increasingly relied on minimally invasive therapies. The clinical challenge was converting 2D CT and MRI data into clear, patient-specific 3D information that both physicians could use to plan precise interventions and patients could understand when consenting to treatment.

Working with 3D Systems and its D2P software, the institute began rapidly generating detailed, patient-specific 3D models and VR simulations for preoperative planning. The easy-to-use workflow let physicians create models themselves, improve device selection and treatment approaches, and give patients a tangible view of their condition—leading to better-informed clinical decisions and clearer patient understanding for more successful minimally invasive procedures.
