Bertone, the famed Italian coachbuilder known for turning sketches into production-ready car designs, needed to deliver more customized design alternatives to clients in much less time without sacrificing the realism of physical prototypes. The challenge was to speed up the iteration cycle from sketch to digital model so customers could review multiple distinct styling options quickly.

Bertone integrated a digital reverse‑engineering workflow: sketches are developed in Autodesk Alias, milled into clay/foam models, then scanned with GOM ATOS and TRITOP and reconstructed in 3D Systems’ Geomagic Wrap. This pipeline let designers iterate rapidly and accurately, enabling Bertone to present seven distinct car designs to a client in seven days and significantly improve flexibility, realism and time-to-decision.
