A 3D Systems Case Study
evok3d, co-located in Nissan NISMO’s Melbourne facility, specializes in direct digital manufacturing of end-use 3D-printed race components under tight turnaround windows. Charged with helping Nissan close an experience gap in the 15-round V8 Supercar Championship, the team faced challenges like improving rear downforce with a complex gurney flap and creating lightweight, reliable cooling and fan housings that must perform in extreme track conditions.
Using 3D Systems ProJet 660Pro, ProJet 3500 HDMax and sPro 230 SLS printers with VisiJet M3 Black and DuraForm materials, evok3d produced functional parts quickly—the gurney flap was printed and fitted for testing within three days—and delivered single-piece pump housings and fully assembled fan housings. The race-proven parts reduced drag, increased downforce and cornering speed, are now in active use by Nissan teams, and helped the newcomer squads climb into top standings in the series.
