ANGIO Mentor The Strasbourg Experience

GEPROVAS, a non-profit research and training group based at Strasbourg University Hospital, faced the challenge of rapidly evolving vascular devices and techniques, shrinking hands-on resident time, and the need to train surgeons without risking patient safety. Leadership concluded that simulation must be integral to training and that the quality of the simulator would determine the effectiveness of their curriculum.

In 2014 GEPROVAS integrated two ANGIO Mentor Suite simulators into a structured program—requiring regular (2 hours/week) practice, video-based briefing/debriefing, and stepwise, metric-driven assessment tailored to procedures. The result: measurable skill improvement, smoother and more confident operating-room performance, objective proficiency thresholds for advancing to live surgery, and a seamless transition from simulator to patient care.
