Case Study: University of Twente achieves top-10 European vascular exam results and standardized resident assessment with 3D Systems' ANGIO Mentor

ANGIO Mentor-Dutch Vascular Surgeons Certification

3D Systems’ Simbionix ANGIO Mentor simulator was adopted by the University of Twente and the Dutch vascular community to address a nationwide shift away from traditional “see one, do one” training. As operations grew more complex, the Netherlands instituted a stepwise curriculum with direct supervision and a mandatory assessment at the end of training, creating a need for reliable, objective tools to train and evaluate residents.

Over nine years the ANGIO Mentor has been central to the CASH-3 Vascular Course—an obligatory two-day training and assessment for Dutch vascular surgery residents that combines e‑learning, pre-testing, case-specific simulator modules (e.g., EVAR, TEVAR, iliac/SFA, embolization) and structured assessments. The program has raised and equalized endovascular competencies across the country and helped Dutch residents consistently rank in the top 10 at the European Board of Vascular Surgery exams.
