American Wind Power Center - Customer Case study

The American Wind Power Center (AWPC), the world’s largest windmill museum, partnered with WhiteClouds to recreate historic windmills for a 1910–1950 model train layout. Many of the original windmills are no longer available as scale models, so the challenge was to faithfully reproduce rare, intricate designs from limited resources (existing models, blueprints and photographs) while keeping the parts 3D-printable.

WhiteClouds’ designer reverse-engineered and CAD-modeled the windmills, then printed them on a ProJet 3500 HDMax using MultiJet Modeling (UV-cured resin with 16‑micron layers) to achieve high detail and durable parts. AWPC assembles, paints and mounts the prints on handcrafted towers, delivering accurate, museum-quality scale windmills that would have been difficult or impossible to build by hand.
