A 3D Systems Case Study
Airtech International, in partnership with Brumos Racing, faced the challenge of producing a critical, large-scale radiator air intake duct for a Porsche race car. Their existing 3D printers could not manufacture the duct as a single piece, requiring a multi-part design with bonded sections that were prone to developing stress cracks during races, jeopardizing performance and risking part failure.
3D Systems' Application Innovation Group used an EXT 1070 Titan Pellet 3D printer and Airtech's carbon fiber reinforced pellets to produce the redesigned, one-piece duct in just 36 hours. The solution provided by 3D Systems resulted in a robust, high-performance component that contributed directly to the Brumos race car's success, enabling it to secure first place in its class and break a previous course record by 20 seconds at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
