Case Study: SISSA (International School for Advanced Studies) achieves research flexibility and high-resolution prototyping with 3D Systems' ProJet 3510

A 3D Systems Case Study

3D Printing set to support SISSA’s research needs

SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste, needed greater flexibility to build custom experimental apparatus for neuroscience and mechatronics research. Until now researchers relied on imprecise molds, multi-part assemblies and external suppliers, forcing experiments to be adapted to available technology rather than the other way around.

To address this, SISSA’s new Mechatronics Laboratory was equipped with a ProJet 3510 multi‑jet 3D printer (16 μm resolution), CNC tools and CAD/CAM and control software, supplied by 3DZ. The result is increased in‑house self‑sufficiency and creativity—researchers can produce complex, single‑build parts (even with internal moving components), accelerate projects like bio‑inspired micro‑robots, and offer targeted training to support ongoing innovation.
