A 3D Systems Case Study
Renault Sport Formula One Team, a high‑performance racing outfit based in Enstone, faces relentless R&D pressure to evolve its car continuously between rules changes and back‑to‑back races. The challenge was to accelerate design validation and produce large volumes of complex wind‑tunnel and on‑car components quickly and cost‑effectively while supporting a fast‑moving development cycle.
Partnering with 3D Systems, Renault Sport deployed end‑to‑end additive manufacturing—including six SLA and three SLS machines plus specialist materials and application support—to turn weeks of work into hours. The five‑person ADM team now produces roughly 600 wind‑tunnel parts per week, rapidly iterates on designs, uses 3D‑printed investment casting patterns for complex metal parts, and has reduced cycle times and costs while expanding on‑car additive applications and aerodynamic testing capabilities.
